Amboise to Sarlat

2 -3 October 09
Started the day with a visit to the Chateau de Clos Lucé, still in Amboise, where Leonardo Da Vinci spent the last three years of his life...

translucent images of Leonardo's work scattered throughout the gardens

this isn't one of them

... then south to the medieval town of Sarlat. Sarlat has a famous Saturday market which stretches from one end of the old town to the other - wonderful array of goods and food, and very frustrating for me since we're limited with what we can carry! Managed to restrain myself to a set of goose egg-sized egg cups (you never know when they might come in handy), a chunk of walnut slice (local speciality) and yet more cheese :)
Note the didjeridoos - good to see Australian representation!

Sarlat is an intriguing town with a myriad of tiny winding cobblestoned streets, lined with dozens and dozens of restaurants (but all offering the same menu of regional specialities - duck, foie gras and mushrooms in every direction! Not that we were complaining :)
Had a lovely regional meal the first night, but by the second all the poultry in its various forms over the previous week or so had pretty much caught up on us, and we hunted down almost the only non-duck meal in town - pizza.

and more foie gras!

Spent the afternoon in Les Eyzries, picturesque little town with a strong focus on fossil finds and the prehistoric history of the area.

Glad to have inally got a chance to answer some of your messages!

Hi Col and Leeanne, Gary and I are reading of your travels from our motel room in Ulverstone (near Devonport - Tas). We have just about fallen off the bed having read your account of picking up yet another wayward dog!!! Hope the tyre changing went without a hitch. How beautiful the french villages and chateaus appear. Glad to hear your trip continues to be very enjoyable. We are having a fantastic time in Tassie. It has been quite cool and damp but that is what makes it also so picturesque. Off to Stanley, The Tarkine, Cradle Mountain and Launceston before heading home. Missing you greatly and cannot wait to share in the many stories you will bring home with you.
Talk again soon. Love Donna and Gary xx
