18, rue Guénégaud, Paris 6

Saturday, 26 September

Metro to Montmartre in the morning, up and up the steep narrow streets to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur. Up even further, 300 winding steps to the Dome, looking out over the roofs of Montmartre to the landmarks of Paris in the distance. Church bells ringing and the singing of the choir drifting upwards as mass started - very special, even with other tourists continuing to circulate and take photos during the service.

Lunch in the very touristy but fun Montmartre village - dozens of street artists sketching tourists, buskers, cafes, lots of souvenir shops and crowds...

Metro again in the afternoon to la Tour Eiffel. Hoped to pick up some food for a picnic on the grass at the foot of the tower before joining the crowds but surprisingly few shops open nearby - ended up with picnic Chinese takeaway :) The tower itself - stunning night views over the city, cruise boats on the Seine, Arc de Triomphe...

At the top!

Will see your Sacre Coeur steps and raise you York Minster - even without claiming the age loading! But that schedule of overall activity sure takes the brioche. C'est magnifique!

Yes, actually had no intention of covering that much ground in Paris! We were looking forward to doing much more sitting in cafes and people watching ... but far too tempting to rush around with so many wonderful things to see.

Now if this step counting is going to be a competition, just wait till I get a chance to post about Mt St Michel...!
